Are You Planning Your Own Funeral Service?

Are you a take-charge kind of person? Perhaps in your family, you are known as the individual who likes to pay attention to detail when planning a vacation. You probably already have files that hold important documents, right? If you are that type of person, you might also be wanting to plan your own cremation funeral services. From planning the music to arranging for those who will speak at your funeral service, here are some ideas that might help you to plan something memorable.

The Inspirational Music - Have you noticed how music touches the soul in different ways? Consider that as you plan the music for your funeral service. For example, if you are a very patriotic person, consider having songs like The Battle Hymn Of The Republic sung. Were you in the Navy? If so, having the Navy song, Anchors Aweigh, sung by a choir or by a trio would be a very appropriate choice.

Or, if you were part of one of the other armed forces, have the song that represents that group as part of the service. If you are a Christian, you may want to have traditional hymns like Til We Meet Again or Holy, Holy, Holy as the music. Instrumental music would be appropriate for any funeral service. A piano solo or a violin solo would be beautiful.

The Spoken Word - Do you think your family members, say your children or your spouse, would like to express themselves at your funeral service? Think about asking them now if they would feel comfortable doing that. After all, they probably know you better than anybody else does. Perhaps you have close friends you would like to ask to be the speakers at your funeral service.

Consider asking more than one to speak, as there's no guarantee of who will be available at the time of your death. Another idea is to write your own thoughts which can be read by somebody else, say the ecclesiastic leader who performs the funeral service. If you decide to write your own thoughts, consider sharing with the congregation things that are dear to your heart.

For example, if you are a Christian, you might want to bear testimony of the role that Jesus Christ played in your life. If you loved teaching, think about writing down some of the experiences you had as a teacher. Consider expressing your love and appreciation to those who are in attendance.
